As a keen observer of nature, I am far more interested in what is intimated in nature,
than imitating nature.
I am drawn to what it unseen by the casual observer,
intrigued by the textures and patterns created by unseen insect activity
or slow growth by roots or rings of expansion in a branch.
What patterns lie within the outer shell of a hickory nut?
What beauty and subtle nuances lie beneath the peeling bark of a crepe myrtle?
What swirling patterns lie in the heart of an unfurled canna leaf?
What I see influences the nature and approach to my art making.
Signs and symbols find a way into my work,
often borrowed from ancient cultures that did not separate
the physical from that which is sensed.
There is a language that binds us all,
inanimate as well as animate, all part of that unseen world
which I communicate through painting.
The spiritual aspects are there for one to sense in some work,
and in other work, overt shamanism.
We have arrogantly disregarded our environment, and
disregarded those that revered it. Are we slowly returning
to the knowledge that we are not separated, nor above nature,
but rather an intimate part of a much-needed balance?
When I approach my work, it is with a sense of awe,
which I have for all creation, and the God who created it,
in an attempt to capture the language
continually spoken, if one has ears to hear........Victoria Lenne
